I am a nutritionist

no prenatals are useless until you are actually pregnant

they do not increase your chances of becoming pregnant and are much too high in iron (and too low in everything else) for women that are not pregnant or nursing

the idiot above with no medical backing should go back to school

compare labels of a regular multi vite and a prenatal and you will see that they have excessive iron and almost nothing else, they have the same amount of folic acid in them as regular vitamins do and you can not build up folic acid in your body it is water soluble, however you can build up too much iron and it can cause heart problems, cancer, and infection. It has never been a recommendation from a nutritional standpoint that you need a prenatal before you're pregnant (that's why they are prenatal vitamins, they are for use during pregnancy) if your doctor is telling you other ways ask exactly how may credit hours he has in dietetics (regular doctors have up to a 45 minute class in nutrition and that's it)

They don't increase your chances of conceiving. They just offer additional nutritional support to you and your baby. Sufficient levels of folic acid must be present at conception in order to protect against certain neurological defects. This is why many women start taking prenatals when they're trying to conceive, but you could just as easily just take a folic acid supplement or a regula multi with sufficient folic acid.

Prenatals do not help increase your chances of getting pregnant. Taking them prior to conception simply helps you create an extra supply of folic acid in your body, which is essential in preventing birth defects early in development. Hope that helps!

They make sure you have the highest possible nutrients in your body at the time of conception.

I started taking prenatals about a month before we got pregnant...just for the calcium and folic acid.

The healthier and more relaxed you are, the quicker you'll be to concieve...that includes nutrition.

I agree with the nutritionist girl, you only need extra folic acid, so why take the multi vitamins? Not to mention they have excessive amount of vitamins B which make you gain weight for no reason, while pregnant or before you do not need to gain 50 pounds unless you are under weighted, but with these vitamins you will gain weight for sure. And that's what my OB/GYN told me. For the folic acid you can try to eat extra fresh spinach, but you won't get pregnant because of it. Good luck.

You need to take prenatal vitamins to ensure that you have proper amounts of folic acid. This helps your baby's spine develop correctly. This is happening often times before you know you are pregnant. Also, if you are your healthiest you, it will be easier for you to get pregnant. Good luck!

No. They do not increase your chance of getting pregnant. What they do is build up folic acid in your body (You are supposed to take them for 3-6 months before trying to conceive) to help prevent certain birth defects like Spina Bifida. And the person below that claims to be a nutritionist is full of CRAP!! Ask a OB/GYN. It has been common knowledge for YEARS that women are supposed to take prenatals before trying to conceive! I actually was seen by high risk OB/GYNs so they have a lot more medical training than the person below!
