The most common type of double play in baseball is when the ball is hit to the short stop, who throws the ball to the 2nd baseman, who then throws the ball to the first baseman.

All baseball positions have numbers associated with them, as follows:

1 - Pitcher
2 - Catcher
3 - First Baseman
4 - 2nd Baseman
5 - 3rd Baseman
6 - Shortstop
7 - Left Field
8 - Center Field
9 - Right Field

So, when there is a runner on first base, and either no one out, or one out, and a batter hits a ground ball to the shortstop, the defensive team has a chance to turn a 6-4-3 double play, and get 2 outs.

So, 6+4+3 = 2, as far as baseball is concerned, at least.
