if its a good movie. The best is a good movie with an ending I don't like, then I can make up a better one.

Or try rearranging the movie characters, making the "bad" guys good and the "good" guys bad. Or imagine the life of a minor character, what he does off screen.

Otherwise, watching a movie is pretty passive.

Music is better, I think. I sometimes get great ideas listening to music, especially if there are no lyrics and singing to distract me.

Listening to music, yes. If you watch movies to get inspiration, you run a big risk of writing things that are just immitations of those movies.

I think a movie would be a distraction, but think listening to instrumental music could be a good idea. It can nourish creativity. My hobby used to be drawing and I always played music.

It depends on what works for you....
sometimes I find that watching a movie etc....
has a way of sparking my creativity or
giving me a insprational thought,
and other times movies or music,
are just annoying and
they clog my productivity.....
but try whatever you think would work for you
that is to a limit ; )

Yeah, sure it can be. I get some of my inspiration from those. I mean as long as you don't copy the story line exactly then your fine, but for inspiration it's fine.

Someone has said that there are only 44 stories in the world.
You'll be writing some version of one of them, so do whatever feels most helpful to you.

Music works better for me. I try to avoid movies when writing because you may subconsciously steal something you thought to be clever. Music seems to go better with brainstorming and daydreaming.

I use to think no. I use to believe that you had to have as quiet a space as possible. Now, I totally believe that you should have in your environ whatever inspires you best!

Music - particularly instrumentals - is a good idea.

With either, you may run the risk of inadvertent plagiarism.
