Labor, especially with a first child, tends to start really slowly. Irregular contractions, more annoying than painful, eventually a pattern develops and the contractions become more intense. Sometimes the water breaks, sometimes it has to be broken. Sometimes there's a huge gush of fluid, and sometimes it's a gradual leak.
I work in labor and delivery, and there really isn't a lot of screaming or swearing. Especially not if the mother has an epidural. You have a lot of options for pain control.
Basically, every labor is different, and everyone's perception of pain is different. There's really no way of knowing what to expect.

Screaming even with an epidermal (ha ha epidural)? My sister gave birth last year and she didn't have much pain at all. Also, my mom's last birth was when she was 43 years old. There was not one drop of blood on my brother. The nurse staff told my mom that they have not had a birth like that in a long time. She was in the hospital and my brother was out in about an hour.
Of course, not all births are the same. I might be in your boat in the future. Just make sure you are at her side and be there for her when she gets home. Cook her some nice meals that are high in iron.

What a perfect question!! Anything and everything!! There's no way to know how your partner will behave when they go into labor. The important thing to keep in mind is that she will be in so much pain, that she may not act like the person you know. She may even be very nasty and demanding, but this will pass (unless you deserve it! - just kidding). The best thing to do is not to take anything personally and be supportive to whatever she needs. The focus will be on her, not you, and this can be difficult.

She will be in a lot of pain and may swear at you or be angery with you. This can be a rough ride at times just be supportive and do what you can for her such as fetching water, telling the nurse when more pain control is needed and doing back rubs. It will all work out okay.

She will be in a lot of pain and may appear to be angry at you. It is a way of venting her pain. Do not take offense. There will be a lot of screaming and blood. Make sure to get a nurse if she needs anything. Don;t be worried. Hold her hand, comfort her. It will all turn out all right.

Screaming, pain, blood. You might want to take some tylenol and ice down your hand.
