for those under twenty-one I would say yes. but, I think this applies to all ethnic groups!
for now, the mainstream pop culture is focused on negativity and on being selfish (one's wants come first)
it will change in time, like it always does.
i do not believe that anyone would willingly want to be stupid. it is all for show
i know a good amount of young men and women that are very intelligent, but choose to play it off.
i can only hope to reach at least some of them

Popular black culture emphasizes the acquisition of wealth, power, physical strength and athleticism, and musical accomplishments, and it deemphasizes intellectual achievements because the intellect is associated (unfairly so) with the white culture that has been very repressive to black people in the course of American history. In this manner both the black community and peer pressure amongst young blacks are to blame.

absolutely.
the "black leaders" would have no one to lead if they didnt keep their peer group dumb and angry.

getting good grades in school is considered "acting white" because if you get a good education, you get a good job, and you would not need the "black leaders" to defend you from the racist, oppresive white man trying to keep you down.

intellectualism is only used by those who feel they are mentally superior and want to be part of the separation of people that drives much of our prejudices today..... you are making an incredibly big stereotype .. it is not so much what color you are as much as it is what family system created you and what system created your parents and so on ... also where you came from .. we are all products, but some seem to have the misfortune of the world not humbling them yet .... i pray you have the strength to endure like african american culture has... times .. they will be a changing ... history tells us all so......

Not the entire community just the ones that people seem to want to pay attention to.

You've got a point there. I see it every day, and it's an injustice to those with great potential.
