When you see sports live there is no one to commentate as far as I know, you just watch. So is it really necessary to have them on TV? You could turn the sound down but then you miss the crowd. So do they add anything to the game or are they just an annoyance

I agree. Most of them are just noise. They say nothing I want to hear and I quite often just put on the mute button. I would like to hear the crowd not the commentators. What is their purpose other than to annoy? I'm not sure they have one.

I like listening to the John Madden - Al Michaels commentary...but some commentators are just plain annoying.

no, when i was watching the World Cup I turned off the American coverage and watched the Spanish coverage it was 10 times better and i dont speak spanish
