I am thinking of purchasing a laptop. I know little of what to look for. Do I go Mac or PC? What should I make sure it has?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

First question: What is it for?
Second question: How much?

The main things to answer in the first question are what programs will be used. Most programs are compatible only with PC's and students are forced to use PC's to run applications for their school. Mac has some software that is emulated/run naturally on a Mac but its not as common as PC software. For pure entertainment/fun I'd fo for a Mac, but for work and upgradability, I'd opt for a PC.

PC's tend to have tons of different configurations from gaming machines with seperate video graphics cards to integrated graphics cards for lightness and compacticibility. Get a drive w/ a DVD rewriter because those tend to come with a CD burner/rewriter and a DVD burner. 80 Gigabyte harddrive is reccommended but more is better, to store songs/information. 512 Megabytes of RAM is "normal" but a Gigabyte or more is better.

Weight is a big factor, a lot of computers with extreme lightness as a factor have lesser quality stats. Better stuff means heavier computers. This is both on Mac and PC.

Mac prices are pretty much set and you can clearly see their prices are linear w/ products thrown in every once in a while for free. (I don't know if the free iPod promo is still available.) PC prices are trickier. Every company throws out promos at different times along w/ promos by individual stores too. Compare specs and try the computers out. A computer might be very good but not feel right. Compare several computers and don't buy the first one you see.

I've recently switched to Mac and I can honestly say, I'm in love. There's just no question any more... Mac is the way to go. There isn't one thing that you can't do on a Macintosh, thanks to Apple's BootCamp software. Now that Macs can run Windows, you will find that you can have the best of both worlds. Even though you CAN run Windows, you'll find yourself spending more time using Mac OS X. A new Mac will come with everything you need to organize your music and photos. You can edit digital videos and make beautiful DVD movies. Best of all, it's so easy. It's all drag and drop. You'll be amazed at the things a Mac can do right out of the box. Don't be intimidated by the fear of trying something new. You'll love Mac, too. It's a wonderful time to switch. Before Windows Vista ships, there will be a new version of Mac OS X. It's called Leopard. Leopard is set to blow Vista right out of the water. I've seen the previews, and it looks amazing. There's tons of new features to get excited about. I could spend all day going over all of the reasons why you should own a Mac. Just spend some time browsing the Apple website and you'll find out all kinds of fascinating things about Mac. Good luck!

depends on what software you want to run. I would go with a pc rather than mac. I you wanna play games or use 3D software, make sure to get at least 1GB RAM and a good 3D accelerated graphics card, say 256MB, Pentium processors are a lot better than celeron.

If you just want t send e-mail and browse the internet, any new laptop out there will do.

A mac wont get as many viruses. Personally a mac with windows would be the best for non-bussiness related issues.

I'd go with a PC. An Intel processor, 1 GB of RAM and 100 GB Hard-drive.

I recently bought a dell but I think that you should examine your price range, and pick something that's suitable for you and if your not sure you could always ask a seasoned professional in computer sales, but be sure to mention how much money your willing to spend otherwise some jerks will just rob you BLIND

If you want to avoid the viruses go Mac. They might be a lot more pricey then a PC but will last that much longer.

I would get a macbook.

The macbook can run OSX and windows XP, and it has no viruses. made with one of the fastest procesors on the market, and awsome graphics abilities. the pro is more expensive, but it is way better than even the standard macbook. I would go macbook pro, no viruses, OSX and XP.

but is is about 1000 dollars more anyway you look at it.
