Have you read the book? This is kind of the main idea! She feels guilty because she has committed adultery and must now wear a scarlet letter A out in the town for all the townsfolk to see (A for adultery) so that they know she is an adultress.

she has to wear the scarlett A!!!! to show to Everyone that she was guilty of adultery.
she has her daughter, a symbol of her "sin"
i forget, i haven't read it in awhile.....but that Priest guy was horrible! i hate that story
