That's a strange fear since you can swim. Maybe you have watched too many scary movies. Since I am not expert with fear I will refrain with giving you a joke answer. Has this started recently? Do you know what caused it? Try to give us some more details so we know how to tackle it.

Try taking some swimming lessons. Even if you can swim they'll help, and I think they're fun! Maybe go down with someone you trust. Try playing games with friends in the deep end. Make it fun! There is not much more fun than playing with your best friends on a raft in a beautiful lake! Hope you get over it!

Use a snorkel and mask until you have confidence and strength in treading water ability, you will find that you are naturally buoyant when your head is just under the water (funny how we are build to drown by just a little bit) this will give you time and space and you don't need to worry about racing to one side of the pool or sucking in water when you are tired..... good luck ; )

Ok hun, I use to have this EXACT same fear. What I did was i practiced floating on my back first. Its very simple, inhale and flop backwards, not like a whale or something though...easily. You will float, you can breath but dont release too much air. You will sink like a rock if you do. Once you have accomplished this, go to the deep and kick off the side...kick ur feet and move ur arms like u would for swimming, but CALMLY. be stationary, dont move. The key to stationary swimming and floating is being CALM.

Keep going to the bottom of the pool and coming back up at deeper intervals.

AND

Learn how to tread water.

It's really OK, that your not treading water well just yet. It actually takes alot of work to keep afloat treading. If you tread water that is just barely over your height, soon enough you will get the hang of it!

its the feeling you have given yourself,,,, that you cant stay afloat in the deep end thats causing your problem..... if you are swimming its not fear of water its fear of depth .... you shud try going to the shallow ... dipping underwater and pushing up to push yourself up through the water ... move further down the pool and do the same ... as you move further down to the deeper end you well realise that ..the pool is not too deep that you cant push yourself up from the bottom ..try it

you have to learn how to tred water, moving of arms and kicking of legs underwater shouldnt be too hard to learn start off with this in the shallow end and move into deeper water as you become more confident in your abilities to be able to do it and you'll overcome you fear in no time at all
