I think you need to have a purpose. Even if your rich you should start a project or donate your time.

Great question!
In our culture, we're bombarded with messages that happiness comes from the stuff we own and what other people think of us. Why? Because it makes people buy stuff.
Why is it important for people to buy stuff? So the people who make the stuff can get more money, buy other stuff, and try to make other people like them, too. (Where does it end??)
The funny thing about us humans is that stuff, and what other people think, can't actually make us happy. They can excite us, and make us feel good for a while---but ultimately, happiness depends on how you feel about yourself. It's an inner thing, not an outer thing. That's just how we are.
So how can you feel good about yourself? Maybe that's what you're really asking. I can't speak for you, but I can tell you what makes me feel good about myself:
_ Having a purpose
_ Doing things that make me use my brain and my body in challenging ways
_ Helping people who can benefit from my knowledge and experience
_ Helping other people who aren't as lucky as I am---making it possible for them to have decent lives, and to find out what's really important to them, too
If you spend most of your time standing around in cool clothes, with a drink in your hand, you could be anybody. That's not what you want. You want to know who YOU are.
The way you do that is by making a difference---by challenging yourself, learning, growing, and helping others. That's how you find out who you are. That's where happiness comes from.
Otherwise you're just taking up space and sucking up resources. Not my idea of fun---no matter how much money changes hands in the process.
I've known many wealthy people. Their wealth had NOTHING to do with their happiness. Often, it made it HARDER for them to be happy, because they weren't required to do, know, or strive for anything. What a sad, shallow existence.
If you don't feel that you have a purpose, here are some suggestions:
_ Spend some (sober!) time figuring out what's really important to you, and what you like to do that might actually be meaningful (in a positive way) in the world. Find out how you can learn more about those things, get better at them, and how you can use those interests and skills so other people can benefit from them.
_ Examine your relationships. Do you tend to hang out with other people who have no real purpose? If so, break out of the syndrome; you're just propping each other up in your unhappiness.
_ Join some clubs, classes, or other groups with people who are learning or doing positive things that are challenging and actually matter.
Good luck! The very fact that you're asking this question indicates that you can tell how empty your life is, that you want to change it, and that you have what it takes to do it.
There's much more to your life than waiting around until you die. Anybody can do that---and you're not anybody. You're you.
Cheers, ander

I suggest a hobby. It'll give you an activity to do and maybe the opprotunity to meet people with similar interests.

Trade in your drinks for some friends. True friends, not just people that will follow you for the money.
