2(b+3b)=72

2b+6b=72

8b=72

base=9 cm. and height=27 cm.

so area = 243 sq. cm.

first of all, we have to assign variables to the base and height. since the base is three times the height, we can write that as
b = 3h
where b is base and h is height. the formula of a perimeter, if you recall is
b + h = p
but since b = 3h, we can substitute it to the formula, with p = 72 cm:
b + h = p
3h + h = 72 cm
4h = 72 cm
h = 18 cm
solving for b, we get
b = 3h
b = 3 x 18 cm
b = 54 cm
the dimensions are 54 cm and 18 cm.
the area is given by
b x h = a
and since we already have the values for both the base and height,the area of the rectangle can be computed.
52 cm x 18 cm = a
936 cm^2 = a
you should probably use a calculator for this one.

Perimeter = x + 3x + x + 3x = 72

where x = shorter lenght
3x = longer length

since 8x = 72, x = 9, 3x = 27

and the area is 27 times 9 or 243

height is x and base is 3x. Perimeter is x+x+3x+3x=72. or 8x=72. Height (x) is 9 cm, base (3x) is therefore 27 cm.

area=27cmx9cm=243 square cm

2b+2h=72: b=3h: substitute 3h for b: 2*3h+2h=72: 6h+2h=72: 8h=72: 72 divided by 8=h:
h=9

Hopefully, you can figure the rest out.
