I can understand someone that might need clarification on something, or maybe directions on how to actually do the problem, but I notice many people just posting the problem and waiting for people to solve it for them. I can't say that I wouldn't have been tempted to try it while I was in school, but is it right?

No, it's not right. I agree that clarification and understanding are a great reason to post. But it's not fair. Although, those that post looking for a free answer WILL find it eventually from someone.

I have answered a some of these homework question by giving explanations. Some of the kids have contacted me by IM for further clarification. Some of these kids are not asking for answers, but really are trying to learn. The people who just provide the answer are not being very helpful. If you notice, at least with the math questions, most of them ask for an explanation of the answer.

For those people who give wrong answers, that is not helping the kid to learn.

I think this category should be discontinued. Kids are asking stuff that they could just as easily google for themselves. I have been glad to give them some help to get them started with ideas, but that is as far as I have gone.
I have also noticed that those asking for homework help never bother to pick a best answer, as well.

No. I agree that asking for clarification is one thing but many people abuse this. I would suggest reporting a user who seems to be asking the questions for homework regularly.

no it's not right. if you're not willing to do the work, you're not going to succeed in life. i understand how completely corny that sounds, but it's true. how hard is it to spend extra time if it's going to improve yourself? maybe i feel this way because i still have a week of summer left before that will be me trying to understand my homework. but from where i am in my education, i can see the light at the end of the tunnel. i'm starting to plan the rest of my life. i'm starting to understand that i need to know the things i'm learning if my plans are going to be realized.

no its not...but if the answer is right and u kno its right...it could really help someone.....its up to people....i've asked for help but i havnt waited for people to answer them...if i dont get an answer i dont..i tackle the problems myself.....and it would be nice if u gave correct answers..it helps.....people are making this program into a joke whereas its existence is to solve peoples problems, clarify any doubts, and put them in the right direction.

Absolutely! The only purpose of homework is to help you learn the material, if thats happening I wouldn't be too picky on the method.

Half the answers are crap, anyway.

Definitely ethical! Remember, give a man a fish and he's got a meal, teach a man to fish and he's fed for life. Additionally, a lot of the crap teached in school is totally useless, and has very little,if any, application in real life.

the thing about being given answers is that you do not learn when you go to take a test for a subject you have done very well in so far by using these methods you sit there dumb as a rock

No, it isn't. I wonder if their teachers know this thing exists. I'd like to see somebody posting a homework question on here and have the teacher see it and answer it.
