I won collegiate awards for my writing. I never edited after I wrote my final copy; it was usually 4:00 in the morning when I was finished with my "rough draft," and I DID edit as I wrote. (I'm also a procrastinator.) If you truly EDIT as you write (i.e., stop writing and look at what you've just written and correct/reword), it's not a problem.

Writing is not a linear process.
