Really helpful would be any links to sites that offer hard data on this kind of information.
The reason I ask is that I am trying to convince my father to quit smoking, and he is very very anti-Bush. I suspect a little bit of money from each pack makes its way to the Bush and his people, but I don't have any hard facts on it.

Wow, i never realized how pitiful, arrogant, and ignorant people are here. It is called ANSWERS people-- that means answers to genuine questions. If you sad people just want to bury your heads in your ideology, why not keep watching O'Reilly?

I do not have the figures for the past 4 years but I do have the 2006 figures. I do believe that the numbers for the other years are similar, but I cannot document it.
Donations to the Republican party were $913,613 for 2006. But before this becomes a republican tobacco conspiracy I have to mention Altria also donated $423,907 to the Democrats.
They were top contributors from the food and beverage industry to both parties
I hate to wreck a good conspiracy theory or spoil Bush Bashing but GE contributions=Republicans $1,013,039 Democrats $562,011

Surely you can come up with something better than this to get your father to quit smoking. How about for his Health, Maybe so he can Grow old and Enjoy Grandchildren. Try introducing him to someone suffering from Lung Cancer. Ask him if he'd be interested in a Nice friendly game of Russian Roulette. If he ask WTF would you ask him that Simply tell him he's doing it every time he lights up.. He However can't QUIT for you or anyone else. He has to QUIT because HE wants to. I know that sucks but if he doesn't do it for himself he'll Never make it. Smoking is a TUFF one to kick KEEP the pressure on. Do it out of LOVE and make sure he knows thats why your doing it. Sorry I can't offer amounts on Funding to the REPS.

Not as much as GE - the world's largest arms manufacturer...
Legally? Who can say - diversion - fraud and miscreancy cover up the real legal amounts.
But illegally... Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Sorry I was doing my rendition of Karl Rove or Richard Pearl. The truth is they ARE part of the Republican party so they don't donate to themselves they just fund their own agenda.

If he is anti Bush, encourage him to smoke.
He's pitiful, anyway.
(And you're screwed up too.)
