I am 36 weeks pregnant and I have been helping some family members tear down the sheetrock in their old house and was wondering if this is harmful to the baby?

No I wouldn't suggest it not only does the sheetrock have dust but also there must me mold spores or other everyday dust and other things on the old sheetrock. Why do you think workers who do this for a living wear masks. I would definitely stop this and go to your doc for a check up.

doesn't directly harm baby, but it can harm the mother, and if the mother gets hurt, it indirectly harms the baby.

wear a mask if there is a lot of dust. make sure the house is ventilated also while working. work safe.

and sweeneygirl brought upa good point about lead dust. don't know how old your house is, but if there is lead paint, and you create dust from that paint, that lead goes into your blood, and you will poison the baby, and can cause birth defects.

It isn't bad for the baby . . . but it isn't good for you (prolonged exposure is rough on the lungs) . . . just wear a dust mask & you should be fine around it... p.s. why are you working w. sheetrock when you are prego? You should be sitting down & eating pickles & peanut butter . . lol

I don't think it's healthy for anyone to breathe in sheetrock.

not likely, but I would mention it at your next appointment. If you plan on helping them again I would go to a hardware store and buy a painter's mask to cut down on the ammount of dust that is inhaled.

Why are you doing something like that ? I would be more concerned about the lead that's in the old houses walls ! That can really harm your baby !!! Don't do it !!!
