It depends if you're talking about an online discount coupon code or paper discount coupon code. In the online world, it is a code you can plug in upon purchase of something online to receive a discount - much like a coupon, hence the name coupon code.

In the paper world, it can be either an actual numerical code or the actual barcode (usually w/ a 5 or 99 in front of it for grocery) on a paper coupon. This "code" is what triggers the discount in the retailer's point of sale system- either when entered in or scanned - at the cash register.

Either way, they're both great!

Since you are not in a store and the coupon cannot be "scanned" then it is a code that is like a "virtual" coupon. It gives a discount.

If you are talking about the black bar with the lines of different widths etc..... it is called a bar code and it is used by the recipient to scan and electronically gives them the amount and other information that only the issuer of the coupon knows. Welcome to the electronic age, you'd be surprised how much information is actually contained in those little bars! If you talking about the numbers and/or letters it's the same principle! Peace!

I see them on the Dell website once in a while. If you enter the coupon code, it ties you in to one of their discount specials.

I'm not sure what you are referring to unless it is a code to use online instead of a coupon.
