I've noticed republicans here don't know what they are talking about most of the time. Is is just here or all of them?

Example, you hear them all the time refer to democrats as liberals. Only 23% of the democratic party is considered liberal.

I personally am a very proud liberal so it does not bother me.

Yet I was just wondering if they even had a clue what the difference was...seems they don't.

My only other guess is that they are still back in the day when liberal was a dirty word... which backed fired on the republican party after seeing exactly how greedy 'compassionate' conservatism is.

Good question. I have wondered the same thing. It could be the result of conditioning that suppresses rational thought. Certain phrases elicit predictable responses like Rove's talking points. Questions about Bush spending two billion dollars per week in Iraq are met with a volley of comments about Clinton missing an opportunity to get bin Laden in Afghanistan. (And yes, I just read it again -- oral sex in the oval office. As if that was relevant.)

One interesting thing is that few come out of the corner boxing when the names Rumsfeld and Cheney are mentioned. It is mostly conditioned reactions to "Bush" just like a bell ringing.

Good answer in Politics about Liberals, I see you read. I have also noticed Republicans are very un informed on many issues. I think that is because they don't want to work to find the truth, then when someone presents Republicans with the truth, they talk about flag burning and other non issues. They have no clue as to what real life is about. Most I know have never worked a day in their life, they even tell me that all the time.
New Orleans is a great example, Republicans did not know that we had people in this country who do not own a car or have a credit card to evacuate.

Clinton was 1000 times better President than Bush, yes he made some mistakes but at least Clinton had a surplus all 8 years in office and even paid on the debt twice, under Republicans Working class tax payers have a $9 trillion Nation debt. They bring up Monica all the time rather than consider the big picture of Clintons positive contributions. Remember when people were positive and had a positive thinking? For the republicans it's about being negative about Clinton. They also love to carry on about how Democrats have no plan but are not willing to read what Democrats have done in the last 30 years that is good for America.
We have a plan, kick the bums out and reverse all the harm they have done to our great country, that's the plan.
Anyway. If you have time listen to Bruce Springsteen, Devils and Dust also Human Touch. I love the Boss, he rocks.

Well if that statement is TRUE then you ALL Dems Need to Leave DC and STOP collecting there paychecks if they can't do anything as I've heard claimed. You're all over the map on your question (and I'm an independent voter, for the record, forming opinions based on issues in debate, not soundbites or talking points of the day).

The dividing philosophy, as it stands today and has stood for quite awhile between Dems and Reps is each one's tendency to think, act and vote in either a liberal or conservative manner. Now, you are correct, some Democrats are fiscal conservatives (not a lot though), and some Republicans are fiscal liberals (the President, for instance), but in general, followers of these parties have been more than content with labeling themselves liberal or conservative. So, I'd like to, for my own edification, understand the substance behind your '23%' figure. The current liberal movement owes much of its birth to the 60's, and a youth-inspired rejection of socially conservative values (which are often accompanied by a rejection of fiscally conservative values).

There was a time when Democratic leadership, like FDR, JFK, LBJ and even recently, President Clinton, were staunch advocates of liberty for the oppressed, not just of our nation but of the world. Many were also war hawks (LBJ being a very strong supporter of a combative response to communism, to show backbone and clear intent). Many were fiscally conservative, perhaps by economic default, the example being the federal budget surplus (on paper) under the Clinton administration.

I would like to know more about how liberalism isn't a dirty word, when many of its constituents support political and military indifference to challenges to democracy on the global scale. What is the liberal response to vocal and active rejection of democracy and liberty in the Eastern world? Also, please explain your reference to the 'greed' of 'compassionate conservatism'? Compassionate conservatism is a catch-phrase that has long lost its luster or meaning. If by greed you are referring to the overt support of corporate America by the government, perhaps you are unaware or refuse to acknowledge the proportion of net tax base that is generated directly or indirectly by corporate America, a tax base that funds many liberal-backed programs...or perhaps, we should all be above the inherent personal greed required to consume fossil fuels in order to get to work, or to put clothes on our back or food in our homes or how iPods and laptops and plasma screens are supposed to be constructed without the use of petroleum product?

If we choose to see the world through solely the liberal or conservative prism, we steadfastly agree to ignoring 99% of the real world. Each situation we are confronted with requires lucid and specific thought, and may require action that is deemed a liberal or conservative response to the situation. However, RARELY is the practice of strict liberalism or strict conservatism going to answer all questions resolutely and sufficiently, and often the solutions are short-lived because of the bias inherent in the problem comprehension or solution development.

It is easy to degrade party affiliates on both sides, with comments regarding intellectual capability or reasoning ability. That is not productive, in my opinion, nor American. And when we are, again, steadfastly content with posing ourselves as liberal or conservative, the overriding need, that of the nation's, undoubtedly suffers, and suffers consistently and thoroughly.

Words are easy to distribute or contort. A better judgment of someone's intellectual ability is found in an examination of the actions taken after sufficient thought is exercised. I can only hope that in the future, the leaders of our great nation solicit input from all aspects of society, without regard to political affiliation, which is infantile and self-serving anyway, but seek to generate the best information and the most appropriate response to the day's issues, with only and always, the benefit of the entire nation as the highest priority.

i think of that individuals (liberals and conservatives) get disillusioned while they experience that their Q&A's are pronounced and that they decide for to lash out. For the main area, i do no longer think of that YA is biased the two way. whether, "some" of those working for YA are. i've got had solutions pronounced that i've got appealed. on the 1st attempt it grow to be denied. on the 2d attempt, it grow to be accepted. nevertheless, ordinary i do no longer think of that YA is biased. i will declare that i think of that Yahoo information is biased in the direction of liberals. I study their information and picture that it is unquestionably one-sided. It would not hardship me lots nonetheless because of the fact i admire examining diverse perspectives to get a stability.

Have you noticed that there are more liberals bashing conservative threads like this one then the other way around? I know there are conservatives on here who post stupid threads like this one, but I bet the liberals out bash conservatives. With questions like this you perpetuate the very behavior you repudiate.

Generally speaking, most liberals ARE democrats. Where exactly do you get your percentages? And why is it that you assume that all republicans have low intellect or are poorly educated. Seems to be to assume such nonsense shows YOUR low intellect and so so education. I am more educated than you according to your bio, so how do you explain that? Or are you another liberal who is arrogant enough to think that if anyone disagrees with you, they must be stupid?
