I currently have an RCA single stereo jack to a Red and White split that hooks into my reciever for playing the computer sound throughout the house. However where the computer is located there are no speakers so I still want to use my computer speakers. I bought a headphone splitter, which is simply just a stereo jack split into 2. So I plug in the computer speakers to one and the RCA splitter to the other. However now everything only plays out of 1 speaker! Is there a better way to connect 2 things to the sound output of the soundcard?

yes, that headphone splitter is a bad way of doing it because you've split the signal (which is why you're now getting only one speaker). go to radio shack and tell them that you want to split the signal evenly to two different outputs and they'll be able to sell you the appropriate splitter for a reasonable price. other options: any major computer store should carry a splitter too
