look for a contact adhesive rather than a glue.
the moisture in glue can soak in and spread causing a stain
or even a stickyness where you dont want it.
if you can find an acid free adhesive use it as it wont
turn the paper brown with age.

To "rebound" a book, you must throw it against something (e.g. a wall). Then it will rebound. :?)

You actually mean "rebind". But do you mean the cover is actually falling apart? Or are the pages (as a single unit) coming loose from the middle of the cover?

If it's that second possibility, I recommend white glue. Spread a thin amount of it on both parts (the side of the pages that attach to the cover, and the part of the cover where the pages attach), then hold them together for a minute or so. Don't use too much glue. That should do it.

In my personal experience (I used to do bookbinding as a hobby) PVA glue is by far the best for most applications. It uses water as the solvent, it dries clear and has very good aging properties.
