UNSUBSCRIBING: To unsubscribe, send an email to the unsubscribe address noted at the bottom of each e-mail from your local group. It'll look something like this blahblahblah-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com (this of course is not an actual unsubscribe address).

the next time you get a message read it carefully and at the buttom of the message there's a way to unsubscribe, also there is a place to help you in the customer service yahoo. they have online help/chat and they can make sure it happens.
this is not an automatic though, it may take 2 weeks before you stop getting messages
