Hi Brandon, you need to get the y completly by itself on one side and everything else, including the variables on the other side.

Do the order of operations backwards, so start by moving the 4x, since its a postive 4x, you would subtract it from both sides. That leaves you with 4y on the left side, split the 4y by doing the opposite, they're connected by multiplication so that would mean you need to divide both sides by 4.

Your answer is going to have numbers and variables it won't be a clean answer.

ax - 4y = 12
- 4y = 12 - ax
y = 12 - ax / -4
y = ax - 12 / 4
