You can study chemistry online, however it would be difficult without being able to interact with the professor since it's not a very easy subject. However, the lab portion is a very important piece of the education. It is a very hands on science. Especially if you plan to go into research.

The priciples of chemistry can be studied online, but a major part of chemistry is practical application, aka laboratory work.
