I don't think there is any particular syndrome that causes this type of problem. The most common kinds of birth defects are those affecting the limbs (arms and legs). These include missing or extra fingers or toes, deficiencies in limb length, and abnormalities in positioning, such as club foot.

Many factors contribute to such birth defects, including genetics and environment. The exact causes of about 65 per cent of defects are currently unclear. Many of these defects arise from an interplay of genetic and environmental factors. For instance, some babies may have a genetic susceptibility to certain environmental factors. If exposed to such factors during development, they may develop an abnormality. If they are not exposed to the factor, they will be perfectly normal. Another baby exposed to the same environmental factor, but who doesn't have the genetic susceptibility, may be entirely normal. This can make it difficult to pin down the exact cause of a defect.

These links are quite informative. I hope this helps.

This may not be a syndrome at all, just a defect during formation. Children are often born without arms or legs, and it is mostly a genetic glitch. I work in a preschool for children with disabilities, and have served children who are missing apendages. Believe me, they learn quickly to compensate for what they are lacking!

The baby still has his/her heart, spirit and soul, LOVE HIM/HER ANYWAY!

You should have known this when the baby was born, from the doctor! The doctor should have told you, if not, then your doctor is just in it for the money!

If it's not your baby and your inquiring about someone else's baby, do a google search and find out!
