If you're brand new to bikes, and really want to start with a sport bike, then a 250 or 500 Ninja would probably work well.
There's also the ZZR600. This is a less radical sportbike, and it has the advantage of having a low seat height. I don't recall the specs, but I'm 5'3, and I was able to reach the ground pretty firmly.
Like the guy said, the 600's, while low in cc's are NOT low in anything else. They're quite fast. But they're also light and nimble. I would hesitate to recommend one to someone new to riding, but if you do have experience already, you could go this route. I got the 04 6R as my first sportbike, and I couldn't be happier.
Also, you can get pretty much any sportbike lowered these days, so really - any bike out there could work for you.
Whatever you choose, spend some time on it outside of traffic, like in an empty parking lot. Get the feel for the bike before you put yourself out there.
I've done this with every new bike I've ever gotten.

Just a little warning for you....whoever said a 600 is a good starter bike is nuts....I have a 2005 zx6rr and the thing is freakish fast for its "size". Sport bikes are a widespread collection of several different sizes and configurations...they all handle differently....I have seen women on everything from 50cc metro's to cbr1000's. Your best bet is to go with something small (125,250). Learn the basics and physics of 2 wheeled riding and move up.....its a whole lot cheaper to wreck a entry level bike.....and you WILL wreck!!!!!!

Sweetie you can ride whatever you feel comfortable with. I don't think you will be to happy starting out with anything less than a 600, cuz if you decide to ride with others you'll be wondering why you can't keep up. I myself am a Yami girl. I ride a Yamaha R6 which I luv to death. It's not as heavy as most bike's and my husband was able to lower it (I'm only 5"1)without any problems. Good luck on search..and be safe.

Does not matter that you are a girl. Girls ride everything ou there. But, if you mean you are small size and a beginner, I would say check out the Buell Blast. Lots of riding schools use them so you could check one out there (and maybe get one used cheap). For more performance , look at the Suzuki SV650 and Kawasaki's Ninja 650R.

Someone gave this answer to another's question. Go to dealerships and shop around for something you feel comfortable on. It the bike is to heavy for you to pick up while it's laying on it's side, it's to big for you. Think about it. If your bike fell over in a parking lot and no one was in sight, what would you do?

Ive seen girls on the following
CBR600 fireblade
GSXR 600
GS500
but it depends on your height. Some places can lower the seat height a bit without compromising handling etc. best thing to do is look at some you like and sit on them.

My first motorcycle was Kawasaki Ninja 250R.
After a year I got Suzuki SV650S, and have had it for 2 years now.
I love it! Very easy to handle, very forgiving, easy to maintain, affordable and very nice looking too.
