I am looking for ways to buy and sell Magic: The Gathering cards. Is buying booster boxes, breaking them up, then selling the rares & uncommons on Ebay a good way to make a profit? Is buying older cards worth it? Is there a chance they will go up in value?

The only way to do this and make substantial profit would be to obtain these cards at a wholesale price. If you could find them at yard sales or flea markets where someone who doesn't care about them anymore is selling their entire set really cheap. And you have to negotiate a better price than what they are asking. Then resell the valuable cards individually, and the normal valued cards in a lot. The problem with ebay is they take most of your profit in listing fees, final value fees, and then paypal takes their fee. You would be better off if you knew people locally you could sell to.

Sounds like a lot of work to me, believe me there are much better ways to make money out there.

You missed the boat on that one, bub. The ridiculously high priced cards were in the Alpha packs over ten years ago.

nowadays if you do it it'll be because you love Magic. Its WAAAAAY too much hassle otherwise, and it could take decades for the value to go up enough for you to make a decent profit, if it goes up at all. You're better off investing in the Euro, or gems.
