I have wireless internet at my apartment, which was working fine untill recently. When I started college this week, I took my laptop to clas and tried to access wireless there. After a few unsuccessful attemps, I took my laptop to the support group who reconfigured my ip adrress or changed it...I'm not sure. Well, whatever the case, now my wirless don't work back at my apartment. I can get to the Yahoo! web site, but from there on I can't log on to any other part of the site that requires me to log in. I am barely able to get to any other site either. My wireless card says I have either a very good or excellent connection, but nothing happens. What do I do?

go into MS DOS
If you have XP you can get their by going into the start menu, then programs, then accessories, then command prompt

Type ipconfig /release
then type
ipconfig /renew

you have to type it exactly like that, and that will release and then renew your ip address

They must not allow dynamic IP addresses at your college, and set your laptop for a fixed IP address. Here's what you've got to do (I'm assuming you have Windows XP):

- Open Start menu -> Control panel -> Nework and Internet connections
- Click Network connections
- Look for your wireless connection icon, and right-click on it. Choose Properties
- Look for a TCP/IP protocol item in the Items list, click on it
- Click the Properties button
- Write down the "Use the following IP address" group's values and keep them safely, as you'll need them when you go back to college
- Click the "Get an IP address automatically" radio button
- Click OK, and close everything else

This should do it. When you go back to college, follow a similar procedure, but use the "Use the following IP address" radio button, and input the values you wrote down earlier.

Hope this helps.

To change the IP, go to the Command Prompt in Accessories then type :

ipconfig /renew

That'll erase everything and reassign an IP

right click on My Network Places --> Then right click on your "network Connections" --> Then click properties --> double click on TCP/IP

you can manually input an IP there.

To release and renew your ip
click on start --> run --> typ cmd then hit enter --> type ipconfig/release --> then type ipconfig/renew
