Having a father who has been through a divorce twice... I can tell you that the effects verify greatly. It really depends on the way the parents handle the divorce. Is it amicable or nasty?? Most kids go through a guilt period where they think the divorce was caused by something they did. They also feel like they have to choose between their parents. I think this a great topic for a research paper. Make sure to interview a couple people some who's parents to divorced when they were young and a couple people who's parents divorced when they were older. Write down the effects that the divorce had on the group that was young in one column and the effects on the group that was older in another column. This will help you decern from the effects divorce has to children in general and the effects it has on young children. Here are a couple sites I found. Just type effects of divorce on young children in your search bar and tons of sites will come up. Good Luck!!

it depends on the children, for instance, my parents got divorced when i was in the 3rd grade, and it didn't really affect me, but some kids, they have emotional problems, their grades suffer and everything, and the long term effects are that they might not want to get married because they might be afraid they'll have to get a divorce or something, you could just go to the library and search for divorce non-fiction books, and they should help you, even if you read novels on it.

Young children love their parents and like to be with both all the times. So, divorce can affect them because he/she has to live with one of the parents after his/her parents are divorced. Child may get affected mentally, financially, socially.

You are going to get a lot of varied opinions on this subject. I have been divorced for 6 years and my children have adjusted very well to both new surroundings.

Divorce can be devastating for children. But staying together for the sake of the children can be just as devastating.

You're damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

Good luck on your paper.

It depends on whether the parents are good parents or bad parents ... a bad parent will not help their child to cope with the situation, and so that child will have much more lasting damage. A child with good parents will have much more help and guidance with coping and will have very little emotional issues at all.
