I believe Tony Shalhoub's family is Lebanese and Omar Sharif is Egyptian. I don't think they are related.

They may well be. Sharif was born in Egypt but was of Lebanese descent. Probably distantly related at least. Lebanon isn t such a big country. If you re Lebanese and share a last name you re probably at least distantly related.
