Let me see if I can straighten this out for you:
Aficans are from Africa,
Arabs are from Arabia,
Americans are from America,
AND
Egyptians are from Egypt.
Any more questions?

Asyuti,

So you're saying that just because some Egyptians have lighter skin, they don't consider themselves African? You know what...I've studied egyptian culture and you all have a little racial thing going on with the dark-skinned Egyptians with the kinky hair, all you lighter skinned egyptians consider yourselves Arab...like that's a privilege or something and swear out that the darker skinned Egyptians aren't...just because of skin color!!! That's just sad, whether you or the rest of the lighter skinned Egyptians believe it or not, the darker skinned one's ARE your brothers and sisters, just because they derive from another region IN EGYPT doesn't make them any less than you! If you truly are Egyptian, then I'm sure you are aware of the Blue Nile author Kola Boof and if you havn't, I urge you to read her books and her biographies...I'll take the honor in providing you some links about her and her work...

Just so you know, I'm greatly offended by you and you should be ashamed thinking that everybody is ignorant!

Boubakar,

Thanks for being honest and telling it like it is...some people refuse to tell the truth about early Egyptians...I don't even know who Asyuti think she/he fooling...the most powerful queens and kings of Egypt were of Sudanese complexion...and that's why many "blacks" have a complex problem today...I see now that this whole complexion thing goes way back and it's embedded in African Americans today...it's a shame!

Actually Egyptians were dark skinned up until the 3rd century AD. The typical Egyptian was darker skinned more like the Sudanese and Ethiopians today. That is shown by the sculptures and paintings of Egyptians that have "black" features. So the arabs aren't really the "real" Egyptians. Even back in the pyramid and great structure building days, the Egyptians were black. Of course in the past few centuries, darker skin has always been looked down on so people would want to try and hide the wonderful history of darker black Egyptians.

It's quite a few Egyptians that attend her my college consider themselves black. One of the guys from Egypt said that they don't call each other black or white generally over there and that they usually judge according to the language spoken. Also, he said that they are usually olive, medium brown to dark skinned and that they rarely see a person with a pale face (referring to whites) over there and if they do see them they look at them strange. He said usually they are tourist or people who relocated over there. The Arabs did invade Egypt back in 6,000-7,000 BC. America is the main society that's always worried about what color someone is. Also, blacks come in over 35 different skin tones so it's unfair to state someone's blackness by how dark they are when in fact some are really light-skinned (not referring to bi-racial). I have seen 2 brown- skinned blacks create a light-skinned child.

the egyptians I know hate it when people refer to them as africans. they say it's insulting and embarrassing.

Happened to me once. I asked a fellow student way back when if she was african and she told me, "no...for the last time I am not african. I look more arab and would prefer if egypt was not part of Africa!"

I just stared and agreed. LOL

We, Egyptians are Africans by geography, but in fact we are Arabs by culture, language, and religion of the majority of citizens.

As we all speak arabic, we belong to the Arab culture, and we don't consider ourselves africans as our skin color is lighter than the Africans who are darker skinned, although we don't consider that as any sort of superiority.

Gee, my Buddy was Egyptian by birth but raised here in the USA... He was every bit as "African-American" as any regardless that he wasn't black skinned.
Good ol Ashraf...I miss him.

Egyptians are African/Arab, but they consider themselves "white' or Arab" they get very offended when they are called African or Black. But racially they are Black, they may not have kinky hair and dark skin but they are Black.
