Do people really think that bush would have sent the military in to rescue the hostages? He would have the same problem that he has now, the military is already tied up in Iraq and Afghanistan, where are the troops coming from? Do you think people then were any more ready for the draft than they are now? No I can tell you they weren't. Remember those who fail to remember the past are doomed to repeat it!

The only thing Carter did was get elected. As soon as Reagon was out of office, the terrorist released the hostages.

Never would have happened. It took Carter's defeat to get them released. He was ineffective in any negotiation. You can't negotiate from a weak position.

It would have taken a lifetime and even then it would've never happened. Haven't you heard the policies now how hostages on foreign soil are doomed to die.

If we are talking George, they would all be dead in a botched raid.

If we're talking Poppy, hard to say.

See links:

Carter said, "I want to talk to you right now about a fundamental threat to American democracy.... I do not refer to the outward strength of America, a nation that is at peace tonight everywhere in the world, with unmatched economic power and military might.
The threat is nearly invisible in ordinary ways. It is a crisis of confidence. It is a crisis that strikes at the very heart and soul and spirit of our national will. We can see this crisis in the growing doubt about the meaning of our own lives and in the loss of a unity of purpose for our nation. [8] "

Based on what I see in Y!A some 27 years later, he was right.
