My BP's been high, and my doctor's watching me for pre-eclampsia. I feel pretty icky today: swollen feet, headache, woozy. Just wondering how bad off a patient has to be before bedrest or anything that drastic is prescribed. Last week, my BP was 148/86. (down from the previous week, 166/100, eek.)

Thanks in advance.

With my first child, I was put on bedrest at 22 weeks. My blood pressure was 160/100 range. I was really swollen and had migraines. I had a c-section at 37 weeks. With my second child, I was put on bedrest at 18 weeks. I did the best I could and it was a LOOOOOOOOOONG pregnancy. My second was born via c-section at 34 weeks. He was early because my amniotic fluid level was very low. Had nothing to do with the pre-eclampsia. When you get to where you know what time it is by whats on TV, you've been on bedrest for a long time! good luck!!!

I was 34 weeks pregnant when I was put on bedrest due to swollen feet and passing protein into my urine168/93, 158/110 were my typical bp's. I had been having high bp's for the past 4 visits prior to that. I was induced at 38 weeks and had a beautiful baby girl in March. Good luck :)

During my first pregnancy, my BP numbers were higher than your's and though my doctor never put me on strict bedrest, I was told to spend at least 30 minutes of every hour resting with my feet elevated (to help with the dreaded swollen ankles) during my last 6 weeks. Just rest as much as possible, avoid sodium at all cost and drink plenty of water. Good luck and best wishes on a healthy baby!

I developed pre-eclampisa with my twins and they just kept checking up on my labs and bp, but i never got bedrest. They did, however, do an emergency c-section at 36 weeks unexpectedly. I think depending on how far along you are and how you are feeling will determine if you get bedrest. To my knowledge, there is nothing they can prescribe, delivery is the only option.

I ended up on bed rest the last two months of my pregnancy. My doctor was trying to get me to 32 weeks so we wouldn't have to go out of town to a hospital that offered a NICU. We induced at 33 weeks. Our son is now a very healthy 2 month old!

Just take care of yourself and follow your doctor's advice and all should be well! Good luck and congratulations!
