where did it form? how fast were its winds? how big was it in diameter? how much damage did it do? what's your opinion on how the government handled the situation? what are the effects that have lasted until today, a year later?

Out in the gulf of Mexico,
It was a catagory 3 which is wind speeds of 158 to206 mph
As to damage it was the levee breaking and the floods that created the most damage. Should have kept up the levees.
The government has become divided and inefectual in a diaster.
Look at the news on the yahoo.com news. Nothing big to date has been done just a lot of talking. Everybody talks nobody does anything.

1) It came from the outback in Australia
2) Maximum wind speed 69 MPH
3) size: approximately 666 feet in diameter
4) damage done: It stirred up some debris in a filthy part of the country and caused some predictable flooding into an extremely low lying area.
5) The government handled the situation fairly well. However the racist mayor of New Orleans spread blame and confusion throughout the country and only succeeded in hampering aid efforts.
6) Lasting effects: New Orleans is still a pit. The homeless/unemployable dregs which were relocated are still mooching off of their new communities

Since you're asking my opinion...I think the local & state gov't dropped the ball far more than the federal gov't. The federal gov't is not supposed to be the first on the scene and the hand giving stuff directly to people...that's what the state & local people are for, and that worked great for my state and town during our massive floods in 1993. I don't think that the federal gov't did things perfectly either, it's just getting a disporportionate amount of blame.
