I sometimes answer questions with a question.....what do you want to do?

I graduated with a B.A. in history at a time when the job market was horrible. I worked for a bit, I ended up taking classes to get into medical school, and now I am a physician.

Sometimes it takes time to see how the picture will unfold for you. I wish you luck!

How can you get close to earning a degree and only now be starting to think about your career? Take some responsibility for your life.

If you want a career having something to do with history you should be doing your own research and making plans. More than likely you will need an advanced degree.

Possible careers:
- Teaching - seconday school (teaching degree) / university (Ph.D.)
- Research - think university (PhD required)
- Work for government agency - CIA / State department - check qualification requirements on line - additional degrees in political science, foreign language, etc
- Background work for stations like History Channel, National Geographic, PBS, etc

There are not many jobs looking for "historians", but with a little imagination you should be able to find a career that makes use of your education and should be pretty interesting.

WalMart's hiring.
Seriously, you need to be a research assistant while you get your master's, if you ever expect to get a job besides, human resource clerk or YMCA soccer coach.
A degree, in a soft field like soch or history, is like a high school diploma 30 years ago.
If you want to teach history-get a doctorate, so you can teach big history.
