Try to treat them when they are fresh...don't leave them sitting around for days. It just encourages the stain to set in more.
Pour a small amount of dish detergent (made to cut grease, right?) onto the stain, and scrub. Use a lot of effort to lift the stain and release the grease. Treat all visible stains then wash in washing machine in HOT water using regular soap. It will help to loosen encrusted dirt if you use washing soda as well. I usually like to preliquify it by putting the correct measure into an old margarine container then adding hot water and mixing until it's completely dissolved. Otherwise it can make marks on your clothing.

Those little yellow bottles of stain remover work very well. They're called Carbona Stain Devils. They're specific to the type of stain, and they have a "fat, grease, and oil" one. I think they can be found at Wal-Mart, or purchased online at the link below. You can also find them on Ebay, and maybe some local stores.

I always use Dawn Dish Soap for grease/oil stains. This will work on most stains even if they are old and have been laundered multiple times.

They sell hand cleaner at automotive stores that resembles white jello. Rub some of that into the stain before you put the garment in the washing machine. It's also good for cleaning shoe polish off your hands.

Use a degreaser. Don't use a flammable product. Simple green is a good choice. Fairly safe for the environment, too.
Good luck

Try soaking the spots is "Simple Green" straight from the bottle. Then after soaking for at least 30 min. toss into your regular laundry cycle.

Tell me what kind of grease/oil and I will tell you how to remove it. Is it edible (as in cooking oil, butter, etc...) OR is it inedible (as in motor oil, etc...)?

I have heard that pouring a coca cola in the washer will help as it has chemicals that will dissolve most anything! Really!!
