I will be out of work for 12 weeks and will have to pay 100% of my insurance. Are there any grants or financial aid to help with living expenses while I am unemployed and doing my demonstration teaching?

There is not that I know of. I did student teach with a teacher who arranged to student teach part time so that she could still work.

Personally I managed to work 30-40 hours while student teaching. I did not have a choice really.

I do not know of any scholarships but there could possibly be something that exists. Perhaps contact the financial aid office of your university.

I don't know what school you all went to, but when I did student teaching for 12 weeks I certainly did get financial aid. My student teaching was worth college credits, I took seminar that was credits, etc. I don't know any teachers that was not eligible for aid during that time. When you get student aid you get it by the semester. As for being broke and not working, then take out a Stafford loan. As long as you are a part time student you can get aid/loans. If push comes to shove take an easy course for enjoyment to make yourself eligible for aid in addition to working on the weekend. You have to survive and there are plenty of teachers who have second jobs to make ends meet.
