It's my son's first Halloween this year, and he's going to be Chewbacca from Star Wars. It is SO cute. I was thinking about doing my costume as Leia, but I have short hair, and I can't do the classic "buns" look. Any ideas on what I can do with my hair for a "Leia" look?

We're looking for cheap ideas here, don't forget. If I really had the money I would just buy a wig or hair extensions.

Get a skein of yarn that matches your hair color, and make two thick braids out of it (kind of like the fake Viking braids you see foot ball fans wearing, but longer). You can then pin or glue the braids to ear muffs (like in Space Balls). Or, if you live in a warmer area, glue it down to cardboard or stiff fabric, or just wrap it around itself and secure with bobby pins or sew it or tie it in place, and attach to a headband or try pinning to your head. It will take a bit of effort, but the yarn should be cheap and soft.

Cheap ideas huh..... I got one! Put your hair in 2 pony tails (if you can) get 2 dixie cups and cut the top (the part you drink from) off about half way down. With the cups, paint them the color of your hair with cheap watercolors. Let them dry. Fill the cups all the way to the top with tighly packed newspaper to make them sturdy. Next, glue the cups, open side in on a headband. Let them dry over nite and test the sturdiness. If they need to be a little more sturdy, keep gluing and drying until they can set.

I found an inexpensive Princess Leia wig at the site below for 16.99 that looks pretty authentic , you could buy online and have it in plenty of time for halloween. One of my favorite holidays .

Look for some earwarmers in brown, or I am sure there is a Leah Wig with the "buns"
