After our house burned to the ground and we lost everything we owned, and I mean everything, I was stunned by the way our city came together and helped us. People we had never met walked up and hugged us and gave us checks, gift certificates, paid for hotel rooms, bought our meals, and on and on. You really don't know what kind of community you live in until something like that happens and I realized how wonderful this one is!

When I was in the second grade my reading teacher named Ms. Hand took us to the school Book Fair. While there I saw this beautiful diary and immediately fell in love with it. I stood their the whole time we were there and just stared in aw of it. She came over to me and I talked about the diary. Then it was time to leave, me not having any money couldn't buy it so I cried my eyes out. Mrs. Hand saw how much I wanted it. The next day in class she gave this speech about how there was a student in the class who wanted a special diary (she didn't name anyone) and that she had bought the diary and was going to do a drawing for someone to win it. Needless to say I won it (I'm pretty sure she only put my name in the box just so the other students wouldn't think it was unfair) and my eyes beamed. I carried that diary everywhere with me for the next 2 days before someone my mom was babysitting (8th and 9th graders and I was a 2nd grader so it was unfair) stole it from me. I was devastate, but in the 4th grade I bought it from the book fair, and even though it's not the original I'll always remember it as Ms.Hand's special gift to me. May God bless her kind soul!!!

There are so many, from parents and teachers, to my kids and wife, but I would have to give this honor to my wife, because I still the this day remember everything about our first daughter, from when she told me she was pregnant to the ordeal in delivery. And then, as if that wasn't enough, she did it again for me!

Well, for us, of course.

I suppose I should thank God, because he has given me this wonderful life, and that is the nicest of all.

One that comes to mind right away....me and my family were at Disney World, when I realized I had forgotten my ticket back at the hotel...I was so upset that I now had to round up money to buy another one. Suddenly, someone walked over to me (I guess he had overheard us) and offered me a ticket that a member of his party was supposed to use (this person, I guess, never showed up). He didn't even make me pay for it. I was almost in tears. No one is ever that nice anymore. It really made my day

When I was like 14, I was riding my bike like 3 blocks down my house... two guys came to me and made me get down my bike and they stole it!!!. I was crying and this little boy, he was like 5, he saw me crying, so he came with his mom and they asked my what had happened and he gave a little flower he cut from a garden hoping that would make me feel better.. and then they walked me to my house... That was really nice and I will never forget it.

It was back in 1972. Cynthia's father let me live, on the condition that I leave town and never come back.
