My favorites are a "bit" older:
- It's a Wonderful Life (1946) directed by Frank Capra with James Stewart
- Ivanhoe (1952) directed by Richard Thorpe with Robert Taylor
- Quo Vadis (1951) directed by Mervyn LeRoy with Deborah Kerr
- The Robe (1953) directed by Henry Koster with Richard Burton
Those are some movies of those we don't see around anymore... unfortunately... sniff... sniff...

The Day The Earth Stood Still. It's a sci-fi film from the 1950s. It has a pretty good storyline, and the special effects were revolutionary for the day. It also set the tone for the entire modern science fiction film genre.

Gone With The Wind or Rebecca. And it doesn't have to be a romance to be a classic. Also in casablanca the quote is "Play it once, Sam, for old times' sake"; in response, Sam tries to lie, saying "I don't know what you mean, Miss Ilsa"; and she says "Play it, Sam. Play 'As Time Goes By.' " Not "Play it again, Sam."
