Biotic refers to living and a biotic refers to non-living. An ecosystem is sometimes defined as the community of organisms that live in an area (the biotic componenent) and
the physical environment in which those organisms live (energy and matter the abiotic component).

In other words the biotic component of an ecosystem could be called a community and would include organisms and interactions such as herbivory, mutualism, predation and so on. The abiotic component could include the cycling of nutrients, the input of solar energy, the hydrologic (water) cycle and related non-living components of the environment.
