...There are jokes for pretty much anything. There are dirty sex jokes, dead baby jokes, racist jokes, goofy cheesy jokes... nothing to get worked up about.
As for the holiday thing... fathers and mothers get their own holidays, important historical leaders and figures get their own holiday, even trees get a holiday... also not such a big deal.
I do think the self-imposed segregation seems a bit backwards... but then again, it's a corrective measure as sometimes, unfortunately, the world just won't balance itself.

"We fought our own family and friends"
If you did, that's great! However, those that you fought simply did not disappear or say, "okay, we will be nice to blacks now." NO! They still made life miserable for as many blacks as they could. That is why most of those things were created.
1) BET is owned by a white man. No self respecting black person thinks highly of BET for it has become terrible crappy network. Do you also have a problem with the country music channel (those dang country folks always trying to get attention) ;-)
2) I don't know if you are liberal or not but in case you didn't know, we are all different from each other. Men are different from woman, and in some aspect, yes, blacks are different from whites. Having AVALIBLE places where men can learn from men (boy scouts, etc), women can learn from women (girl scouts, etc), and blacks can learn from blacks, is not necessarily a bad thing. There are still options available for everyone to be together.
3) Every race has jokes about other races. Jesse Jackson is not beating on their doors.
4) There are scholarship programs for EVERYONE, yes everyone. If you look, you will find them.
Your frustration is understandable. Sometimes, it does seem like many blacks just complain while you see them doing nothing for themselves to improve their situations. In some ways, the liberal government has handicapped these people by making them needy and dependent on the government and not encouraging them to be enterprising.
I'm upset that there was a need and a reason that all those things were created in the first place. Nevertheless, those things have nothing to do with blacks who feel like they are owed something.
Those blacks are just lazy and are unwilling to undertake the difficult task of demanding better of themselves.

Nagin is a buffoon and the people of New Orleans get what they deserve in re-electing him.
That said, even with all the things you describe few blacks are getting ahead and being successful because they bring themselves down. It's not cool to be successful in much of their community (unless you are a rapper or professional athlete that is). In America, at least, it is just sad.
It's because of this sad fact that many people (myself included) feel that the social programs designed to help them are a big fat waste of tax dollars.

I understand your point, but you definately could have presented it better. Personally, if that is the way they want to be, fine. I have a few black friends and I truly cherish their insight and company. However, there is a rift between mainstream America and black America, mostly based on cultural diffrences. I say if they want to segregate themselves, fine, just don't expect me and my tax dollars to pay for it. As long as they do not try to hurt my family or infringe on my privacy, cool. Now if they could learn not to play their crappy music at 3:00 A.M. down the street, I would appreciate it.

I pretty much quit answering these types of questions because I've come to the conclusion that in general everybody hates everybody else that is in anyway different from the way they think people ought to be. That's never going to change so any discussion about it is pointless. Also the people that ask these questions here are not looking for answers, they are looking for confirmation.

because of way past history and some current history in the south, whites are still considered to be racist, but it is true that in my life, i have only met one true racist that was white....all the other racists, and there were many, were people of "color" blacks mexicans and asian....they seem to hate eachother whites and all other races too....not sure why it is such a big deal to some.

This is not a new angle, its the exact same angle just at a different time in its progression...it has been going on since we(WHITES) died so that they could be free. Blacks tend to not see that WHITE people died for them in the civil war. But to say that ALL blacks are opressors is a bit of hate mongering IMO

I AGREE...
I am a white Zimbabwean and its ok for the blacks to be racist to me ....
I have NEVER been racist but am finding it hard to accept the fact that it is ok for blacks to be horrible about "pigs" and are allowed into coutries based on the fact they are black !
Its hard being white.
