You have decided to come to Oz with those expectations, I can only ask why?
Did you know a lot of Italians live here too, perhaps some of your relatives are giving the country a bad name.

Australia is very dangerous.
Generally only the very strong or the very lucky survive. That is why the population has remained quite low.
Do you know any martial arts? If not, I suggest getting at least a brown belt before attempting a trip to Australia. The last thing you would want is to get beaten up or killed by mobs of thugs roaming the streets.
The bite you mentioned is not only dangerous but will KILL you. If you get bitten, there is no cure. It takes about 20 minutes to take effect and then you will be dead. I have heard it is very painful.
People of Australia will also often rob you for money and food. It is a common way of life. They don't use money, they just grab what they want and if you don't have it, or give it, they will beat you to the ground.
Anyway, have a great trip!

Australia is still one of the safest places to visit in the world. It's true we were settled as a prison colony, but you have to remember that most of the people sent out here committed very minor crimes like stealing a loaf of bread etc. Murderers and heavy crims were most often hung, back in England.
Anyway, that's really neither here nor there anymore, because now, you will find that Australia is a cosmopolitan, advanced & safe society for you and your family, and our convict past simply makes for some interesting historical sites to visit.
In Australia, if you follow simple common sense that you should follow anywhere in the world (dont walk down dark alleys late at night alone etc.) You will be perfectly safe. 90% of the places in Australia are perfectly safe to walk around in all the time, just use some thought.

The aboriginal people are the people who are native to Australia just like the Native Americans were the people first in America. Other than them, I'm told that the British Empire used to take prisoners to Australia and used it as a penal colony so, yes, many are descendants of those people who were imprisoned there. That was a long time ago though so you should be ok. Talk to a travel agent if you're unsure.

Oh my God what a hack.
Not everyone who is an Australian descended from the convict era. My Family were cotton farmers brought (yes brought as in paid for) by the Australian Government from the West Indies and set free from slavery.
My opinion for you is stay home and stay ignorant.
There is no room for losers here.
You will not get mugged as you walk down the street, you will not get bashed, but I do hope something bites you in the ass while your here if you do travel. REALITY.

Yes some of the original settlers to Australia were theives, but the majority were rich Aristocrats from England, i wouldnt be to worried about being robbed in Australia if I was you, unless you hang around Melbourne to much which has the second largest population of Italians in the world. The majority of them are Mafia desendents, all robbers and theives, the italians killed and robbed people in Australia just like they did in America, so my greasy little friend I would be more worried about your own kind than anyone else here. Ciao....

Most of the prisoners sent to Australia were Irishmen who dared to capture rabbits on property stolen from them by the King of England, or having the nerve to fight the English for their freedom etc.

This maybe so, but at least we did not descend from peasants! I'm sure you have thousands of relatives that will tell you that Aussie, is a far better place to reside. That's why they are all here taking our jobs!
