If your computer is your house, a firewall is your security fence. It's designed to stop people or software entering your computer without you allowing them in.

However, you still want friends to get in, so like a security fence has a gate, so your firewall will have a means of letting friendly software go in and out.

If you open up your firewall software there will be a way of identifying to it allowed and not allowed software or what the software can do. The method depends on which firewall you are using, but it's usually a simple case of ticking an allowed/not allowed option.

However, don't turn off your firewall as this is the same as removing the security fence around your house and leaving the doors open.

Firewall is a security measure on IP port connections that allow/disallow certain connections based on port number in UDP or TCP.

Http uses the port 80
Ftp uses port 21

and many others..

File-Sharing programs uses different ports like 65778, etc..

to disable firewall, just go to Control Panel and open "Firewall Settings"..

hope this helps..
