There are ways to mitigate the massacre. In 1999, the Federal Highway Administration established a program to support and fund state and local wildlife crossings over new and existing roads. Bridges, tunnels and passageways known as "critter crossings" are designed to link habitats and reduce road kill. Similar crossings have been used successfully in Europe and Canada since the 1960s.
Individually we can do something, too. Spring is prime season for road kill. (The statistics soar in April, May and June.) Animals are emerging from the deep woods, often with young families in tow. Yearlings, unfamiliar with "road etiquette," are being pushed out on their own for the first time. It’s a good time to slow down and pay attention.

I see this all the time too and it really makes me sad. I suggest people drive more carefully, some people don't even care if they're going to hit a poor animal. I also suggest putting fences up around roads so the animals are less likely to wander on the road.

Nothing you really can do except be aware while driving or not drive at all. There would be no ivention to really prevent it, an animal could climb up and over a wall or something of that sort. As long as people keep driving it will happen.

practically, the chances of an animal surviving while crossing street are nearly 5%. but you could build a fence.

There are a few animal warning devices out there. Here's a link to one called "Animal Lover" which emits a 110 DB ultrasonic alert and attaches to the front license plate.
