Copyrights can be obtained for things of an artistic nature. This includes, of course, poetry, films, sculptures, music, fiction, etc. But can also include things that may not necessarily seem "artistic" in the general sense of the word. Copyrights can also be obtained for advertising copy, games, software programs and blueprints, to name just a few.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

It's the right to make copies of a literary, musical, or artistic work. It can be printed material, or even audio, visual, etc. Something is automatically in copyright the moment you create the piece of work, it's just proving which author was the first to create it that can be a problem if it is not officially copyrighted by the government. Works that are granted this copyright by the government after January 1, 1978 are protected for the lifetime of the author and 50 years after his or her death.
