So long as you aren't unfriendly with them, you could mention that you are trying to sell your house and hope they will pick up the yard a bit.
You could even mow their front yard when you do your own (who would really complain about that?) Do what you can to screen their house from yours (plant tall bushes, park a big van or moving truck in front of it, only have realtors show at night...) and do as much to accentuate and keep their attention on your house as you can (flowers, nice front entry, edge the lawn)
Your right to be concerned, most people won't want to knowingly move in next to slobs. You may have to reduce your asking price if it is really bad.
Good luck.

Making enemies of your lazy neighbor's will NOT help sell your house. They could, in fact, then sabotage a sale by acting out when people come by. The privacy screen can be accomplished without planting bamboo which could be a sale deterrent as it is almost uncontrollable after planting and any savvy gardener knows that. You could buy inexpensive plastic planter boxes planted with the same bamboo and set them along the property line. There are lots of other fast-growing tall plants you could also use. It's a little late in the season though to start from something small. If it were me, I would try the temporary privacy screen and hope for the best. Don't forget to pop those cinnamon rolls in the oven right before buyers come to call :). Good luck!

As the old saying goes: Fences make good neighbors.
How about growing a huge bamboo thicket between your house and theirs to obscure the view---it grows so fast you might be able to accomplish the goal quickly before you're ready to put your house on the market.
Then go over and tell them how great it is, and see if you can hoodwink them into planting it in THEIR yard too--or if you're really sneaky, plant some without telling them in strategic locations. If they're lazy enough to have an eyesore of a house, they might also be too lazy to eradicate a fast-growing plant.

Your neighborhood may have a covenant or something that will make them clean it up some. I know our's has one. You could type them an anonymos letter asking them to do something about it and mail it to them. You could wait until you see them outside one day and then approach and explain you're selling your house and ask if they wouldn't mind cleaning their's up a bit. Since you aren't friends with them you don't have to worry about hurting their feelings.

Well, first get a stick of dynamite...
Just kidding. People who are interested in your house will only be looking at your house. Don't worry about your neighbors. Any potential buyer would know that you can't change their appearance.

Potential buyers WILL notice the neighbor's house. If it's that bad, well...good luck.

If there is any city ordinances being violated then call them in for that. Other than that I'm not sure.
