I've never personally experiance one but i'm obssessed with the show GhostHunters on Sci-Fi... Hope this helps

I think it means that the spook was there before you were.
I know that I've had ghosts in more then one place I've lived. I do believe that there is a female spirit in the house I live in now. No worries though, we've been here for 10 years, if it were going to be unpleasant it would've started already. Not to many spirits like us bone bags invading their homes, especially if theirs was a painful death. It is a little spooky when your ghost gets comfortable enough around you that it doesn't try to hide anymore!!!
