Science fiction -- Robert Heinlein's "The Door Into Summer", not too cerebral (e.g. technology-oriented science fiction) and a fascinating blend of all your favorites.
Middle Ages -- "Catherine Called Birdy" by Karen Cushman, A Newbery Medal winner and a fascinating look at a servant's life back then.
Fantasy -- "Ella Enchanted" by Gail Godwin (?), a remarkable twist on Cinderella, where the main character has to be smart enough to overcome an enchantment.
A little offbeat, but still great -- "The Dogs of Babel" by Carolyn Parkhurst, the story for a man who wants to find out how his wife died by asking the dog (!).
You can't go wrong with great reading! Good luck!

You need to get something by Orson Scott Card if you like Sci Fi. I would suggest Ender's Game.
For Fantasy I would suggest author Terry Brooks. The Sword of Shannara. ; )
