You should be proud of your accent because it's part of your identity.
The ones who tease you should be ashamed.
Just ignore the teases because the more you pay attention to them, the harder they'll mock you.
It's a snowball, right?

You learned to speak in a certain way and in much of your native language sounds are spoken differently than in the English language. Practice with yourself when you are alone by emulating the spoken voice of those around you, and those on TV and Radio. Tyr to repeat the SOUNDS you hear rather than the words you hear.
It will take time to unlearn the 14-15-16 years of speaking as you originally did. Work at it and it will come to you. It might take some time, but be diligent, it will pay dividends for you.
In the mean time, just do your best to ignore the taunts and jibes of those that tease you. You know, it might just be that they are jealous of you and your academic achievements. Express yourself in class, your views are valuable. Be yourself and good luck.

I am sure they like your accent. You are probably just reading them all wrong. Don't be shy about it...you are not the only one with an accent, but a Nigerian accent is new to them. Be brave it is a minor thing.

Dont be afraid to be yourself. Dont be afraid to talk. Alot of them may be teasing you becauuse they are jealous that they dont have an awsome accent. I love to listen to the way other people talk. Who knows you might even be secretly loved by all the girls with you accent. I wish you the best. I now how high school kids are now adays and they are all just jealous or stupid. Best of Luck!

You are gonna be very successful & put your peers in shame! You will have a good job more quickly than them! They're gonna be flipping burgers for the rest of their lives. You will be running a high-quality business corporation & own 3 mansions & 6 cars.

Taking a speech class or voice lessons may help your accent. I understand your concern. Those whom are really caring, care not about how you sound but more about what you say.

They laugh at you because they can see you care. So, don't mind their laughter. They'll eventually get tired. Or else, pay attention at how they speak. Sooner or later, they'll make a mistake, too. Show them they make mistakes, too.
