Shoes on an infant is cute especially when you take them shopping or at a restaurant out or to have their pictures taken. But if you want to have them wear real shoes then it's best to wait until they start to walk good. By then they will need shoes because you won't want them walking on the nasty ground.

I got this email yesterday:
Even if your baby is cruising, don't invest in baby shoes until he walks independently and can easily navigate rough or uneven surfaces. Experts say going barefoot in the beginning helps him develop his arches, leg muscles, balance, and coordination. Once he stops holding on and takes some initial wobbly steps without help, though, head for the shoe store — your baby will probably progress amazingly fast (usually in a matter of days) from first steps to toddling more confidently on his own. Then he'll be ready to don shoes and try walking outside.
But my 9 month olds have cute shoes just for looks. :)

As a recent new Mom, I have been reading my share of magazines and articles. "They" say no shoes are best during the development stage...bare feet enable they to feel their surroundings, and grasp the surface better. I think shoes for babies not yet walking are more of a fashion accessory. After walking begins, obviously shoes are needed for outings other than the back yard!

Regular shoes??? I'd say 6 months or older. But my niece is turning 6 months old the day after tomorrow and she has worn slippers for like, 4 or 5 months. I'd say, whenever the baby is calm enough to leave them on.

It's best for babies not to wear shoes while they are learning to walk, unless of course they are outside and need protection from rough surfaces or the cold. Most of the time, my 12 month old,who is learning to walk, does not wear shoes. I think it makes their feet stonger walking barefoot.

it can be whenever cause they make shoes for babies of all ages. my friend has a 3 month old & she has a cute little pair of white tennis shoes that she got when he was 2 months. She doesn't have them on him all the time...just occasionally when she's taking him out somewhere & it would be adorable with his little outfit. Her sister also has a pair of black adidas ones & found a matching pair in his size.......they are CUTE! =)

Softsoled shoes like Robeez or similar are best until your child is older. the feet need to be unconstricted.
