I am a scientist and in order to retrieve a maximum of info fast, I would need a program or whatever script, to download all of the files attached to the links displayed in my browser without me having to press 1000 times on "save as"....

you need a download manager with leech feature..

many download managers have this feature.. it lets you browse a website and downloads all the files on it..
